Page 1 of the comic ~ToxicToothpick and I are working on together. I'm going to upload the pages to DA for now, at least until I figure out what else I'd do with them.

I plan to try toning or coloring this (or possibly both) but I can't decide on a style yet so you're going to get the bare bones, freshly brush-inked look. Basically this is a page purely un-fiddled-around-with, save for a few minor corrections.

I am trying a lot of new things with this so critiques are welcome! Expect updates on Mondays and Thursdays. I'll try to be as regular as school permits.

LEMME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

The appeal and expression of "mynameismad:'s characters are a real draw for me. she sets the mood so well with just a stark stare from an unhappy camper or an innocent grin from another. To tap into exploring the old frontier can reek of "rehash" simply because so many different writers and artists have had taken and run with that setting to facilitate all sorts of strange storytelling. But, far from using that sort of exploration as simply a malleable plot device, Mad seems to really live there – placing so much emphasis on the vast backdrops of canyons and sparse foliage. The touches with the cactus people and creatures are really neat to me. I can only give 3 stars on vision, simply because i don't know where this book will go yet; myself sitting at the gates of the prologue. I do think this story so far is highly original, VERY funny, and approachable for a lot of different audiences. Those are, in my opinion, the best sorts of stories to get into because you could tell your grandmother about it...and some 1st graders, if you so chose. The hand-lettering went to show the amount of care Mad puts into her story crafting, as well as the hatching effects she uses for drama's sake or to keep the pacing fresh. Granted, this isn't usually the style i'm drawn to since my work has a more eastern influence to it, but the graphical appeal the comical feel, contrasted with the high level of detail and space created really makes for something robust who's installments i look forward to seeing in my deviantwatch.

This intro is beautifudge.

I swear it's
amazing.
TOO PAWSUM FOR WORDS.

it definitely has a feel to it.
IT MAKES ME FEEL A FEELING I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE.

We need that guy who was in Ghost Rider to narrate this.

looks good! I would recommend coloring it, because the shading on the hills in the fore and middle ground make them look like they're covered in grass.

Very nice inks. I might have gone with more delicate lines on the clouds, but that's nitpicking. Looking forward to seeing your cactus folks again!
